Sabbatical: Week Three
This week overall was one where I spent as much time recovering from things I've done as actually doing things. There were many chores - fixing lights in the kitchen, fixing the child's car, driving people around due to having one less car, a snowstorm and a broken snowblower, and fixing that, too.
But I did get some things done:
- I migrated the exercise program I'm doing to a web page that everyone can see, linked on the left of this page. It tracks where you are, and stores that info in your browser, not my server. I personally did not make much progress this week due to all the other stuff I was doing and resting afterwards, but next week we'll go again and hopefully move up a few levels.
- Printing work this week was talking and planning. I had a great morning this week chatting with Chris Gill (https://www.gilfaloartdesign.com/) in his studio. I knew Chris when we were in 7th/8th grade, and we caught up after 39 years. He was able to point me to improvements on my tools and materials for printing, as well as showing me his setup and talking about how he does his work, which was illuminating both for seeing someone who is doing well with their own creative practice as well as informing me what I really need to be doing to get decent results. He gave me enough information to level up what I'm doing, which meant that I ordered a few new things for my own studio space and will probably be digging deeper into that realm next week as well.
- I made a Christmas ornament for Loretta. She said we have no new hand-made ornament, just ones from when the kids were little, so I went out and turned a small wooden ornament on the lathe, added a hook and gave her a new one! Woo!
